Rooted Reads Book Club: Lentil Underground, April 27, 2026

April 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Flyer for Rooted Reads: A food + farming book club featuring the book Lentil Underground. Event on April 27, 2026, at Horse & Dragon Brewing, Fort Collins. Includes event details, book cover, and more information.

Join us in person at Horse and Dragon Brewing (145 Raquette Dr, Fort Collins) for our Rooted Reads: Food + Farming Book Club to build community and engage in conversation about stories of food and agriculture. These conversations are casual, fun and led by Claire Boyles, a PVCF board member, award-winning writer and former farmer.

This month we are reading Lentil Underground: Renegade Farmers and the Future of Food in America by Liz Carlisle. Lentil Underground tells the story of a group of Montana farmers who challenged the industrial grain system by rebuilding regional lentil production rooted in soil health, cooperation, and shared risk. Through deep reporting and personal narratives, the book makes a clear case that ecological farming is not a niche ideal but a practical response to climate change, market volatility, and rural decline. The result is a grounded, systems level argument for why rebuilding local food economies matters and how it can actually work.
